The fifth and conclusive day of competition in Gabala opened with a demonstrative 50m Mixed Team Junior event.

The teams, composed by one male and one female junior shooter, were also split in one Pistol and one Rifle athlete, both aiming at a target placed at 50 meters.

The Gold medal of the event went to the couple composed by Romania’s Paul-Casian Codrean and India’s Zenab Hussain Bandookwala, while Thailand’s Peechnat Khlaisuban and Qatar’s Aisha Al Suwaidi finished 2nd.

On the 3rd step of the Team event podium, then, placed India’s Arjun Das and Gaayathri Nithyanadam.

Trap Women Junior

The fifteenth and conclusive Olympic Shooting event taking place at the ISSF Junior World Cup crowned Australia’s 19-year-old Jack Wallace with the Trap Men Junior Gold medal, after he met and beat the 2016 Junior European Champion Simone D’Ambrosio (19) of Italy in the Gold medal match.

D’Ambrosio, who finished with the highest score at the end of the qualification round, also topped all of his rival in the semifinal, where he crushed 12 out of 15 targets. In the Gold medal match, however, he missed 3 clays in the second half of the match, while Wallace closed with a streak of 9 consecutive hits, claiming the Gold with a 14-hits to 12 win.

In the Bronze medal match, another Italian shooter earned his place on the podium: Matteo Marongiu, Silver medallist at the 2016 European Championship in Lonato (ITA), prevailed over India’s 17-year-old Manavaditya Singh Rathore with the final score of 14-hits to 11.

As Wallace, Marongiu, Rathore and 18-year-old Liu Chengjiang of the People’s Republic of China all finished the semifinal with 11 points, a four-way shoot off had to take place before the medal matches. There, Liu missed both of his clays, finishing 5th with 11 semifinal hits.

Australia’s Samuel John Bylsma finished the match in 6th position with 10 target hits in the semifinal.

Thanks to the two shooters they placed in the semifinal round, Italy also climbed atop the team podium, followed by Australia in 2nd positions and by India in 3rd positions.
